Students helping Students – new Fontys Venlo Buddy System |
As of this semester Fontys International Business School Venlo has a new buddy system which should greatly support our new international students in their first weeks in Venlo.
This so-called buddy system was developed to avoid that new international students get lost in the first weeks at Fontys. Students need to know where to go to complete their enrolment process, where to find their classes and also to get to know the city of Venlo. For this reason Team International Relations requested support from current Fontys students.
Last semester Fontys Venlo had a buddy group consisting of merely 4 – 5 students which organized trips and parties for the international students. From this semester on the buddy system has been extended in such way that each new international student (both exchange, as fulltime students) gets in contact with a current Fontys student (the buddy) prior to departure. This buddy will tell the student what he still needs to take care of. Furthermore, the buddy will pick up the student upon arrival. From there on this buddy will assist the new student in several steps like signing the rental contract, signing up in the city hall, and opening a bank account. Besides that, the buddy will share his experience with studying at Fontys Venlo so far. This means that he will give a campus tour, explain how the Fontys Intranet works, explain the unique teaching style, but foremost will explain the student life in Venlo and around.
All in all, the buddy system should help the new international students in getting acquainted and started in a new country and lecturing culture.
