The individual national markets, trades and currencies are growing towards a united global business sphere. For young adults an international education is an important step towards the future world. Especially, the economics courses offer excellent prospects. Not only production companies, but also the rapidly growing Tertiary Sector (trade, banks, insurance, and consultancy) and government need qualified economists in all departments.
Shareholder Value, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Hedge Funds…If you open the political section of a newspaper or listen to the daily news, the significance of the complex modern economy for worldwide politics is very apparent. As it is possible for everyone to see through these processes, to understand their meaning and even to take part in them, is a thrilling and promising challenge.
How do I manage an enterprise? Where can I make high profits? How can I keep the costs in control? How do I behave in an international context? What influences do international tax law and the worldwide finance- and commerce market have?
If you would like to find the answers to these questions, then our economic study programme International Business Economics (IBE) is the right choice for you. The main points of IBE are business administration, finance, organisation, budgeting, tax, controlling, calculation, investment analysis, logistics, management techniques and much more. Informatics and data management will complete your knowledge of economics. Parallel to these topics you will receive a clear insight into the basics of marketing and you will also be exposed to relevant soft skills.
All courses at International Campus Venlo have a duration of four years. Each year is made up of two semesters. The first course year is called Foundation Year and offers room for orientation and selection.
After the first year you enter the three-year Main Phase. In the second course year this Main Phase consists of the acquisition of professional competences in the Young Enterprise Project. During the Work Placement in the third course year all students go to companies for a 5-month work placement. After this you return to ’the Learning Community’ for feedback and additional subjects. At the end of the course you will write your graduation assignment. Once again this takes place within the framework of a 5-month work placement in a company. International Business Economics offers all professional skills and experience areas, which are of great business value in the international world of economics.

A graduate of the study course International Business Economics has good career prospects. The economy is increasingly asking for well-educated skilled employees, which not only gained theoretical knowledge but also practical experience in companies. The companies – in which our graduates are employed – highly appreciate the practical orientation, the international focus and the skill to work in independently or teams.
For example, our graduates are working as auditors, tax consultants, business controllers, financial managers, information managers and business consultants. These positions in regionally-based, medium-sized companies as well as in multinational corporations are filled by our graduates.
Wherever knowledge in financing, administration and information supply is needed our graduates are well-prepared as regards content. We are particularly proud that a large number of our IBE graduates are employed by the companies at which they did their work placement or bachelor work.

“You are studying economics? How boring…!“ That is the overall cliché I hear when I tell someone about my study choice. But studying economics at Fontys is quite different. The courses are not only focused on theory, but also practical application is required. Much work in project teams, founding your own “Mini Company” and several internships make the four years at Fontys very interesting and varied. Moreover, small classes and direct contact to the lecturers create an atmosphere for effective and individual learning. Studying abroad is always a valuable experience."
Umut Korkmaz, Student International Business Economics
"When completing my A-level in Economics one thing was always clear to me: I want to study Economics. After an intensive search for a suitable place, I finally decided to study International Business Economics at Fontys International Hogeschool Economie in Venlo. I am currently in the second year of my study and I have not yet regretted this decision. On the contrary, I am very pleased that I reached this important decision after school properly and the results I receive from the courses show me that I am on the right track.
At FIHE I especially like the practical approach and working with fellow students and lecturers in small classes. The motto “learning by doing” at FIHE means, that theoretical theories are directly applied to practical problems and tasks. Especially the Mini-Company which is a good example of applying acquired knowledge.
Another benefit of FIHE is the really good technical equipment in all rooms as well as the connectivity to the transportation system which make the study at FIHE more convenient and efficient. All in all, FIHE offers a very attractive and varied study course of International Business Economics and in my opinion FIHE is “the place to be”.
